The state of California is changing the standard of enrollment once again! California state law now enforces children with birth days on or before October 1st 2013 to be held back regardless of actual acadamic status, credentials and or qualifications. This puts them in a kind of "limbo" to where they had to spend tax dollars to create a special "Transitional Kindergarten" class.
Transitional Kindergarten is to accommidate those too advanced to re-take preschool and not advanced enough to enter kindergarten. Although it is extremely beneficial to those kids who need it, the kids who DO NOT will suffer becoming less and less interested in their education due to a lack of stimulation and confidance possibly then ending in drop out.
The thought process is, make the kids older to establish a more "mature" enviroment possibly leading to a lower drop out rate. Unfortunalty, AGE is NOT the reason our students drop out! Its a far more vast and complicated situation. It starts in the home and goes as far as the community they reside in. The negatives to having older children in our school system are something that even the government cannot forsee. One being the rate of "stachatory" issues increasing significantly. Who wants to hear that their 15/16 year old son/daughter is dating a 19 going on 20 year old because they go to school together still?
Things have to change, and only those who speak up get heard. Our students and schools have suffered enough! Lets make a change, lets make history, lets help our kids!
