Every day, hundreds of speech and debate contestants are denied the recognition they deserve because of biased judges. Bias to a degree that it directly interferes with the critique of a student's performance in an event is unjust and intolerable. This petition is advocating for a system of judge selection and judging that would resolve a lot of the bias issues within the speech and debate judging system.
How would this work? On application to being a judge, a test gathering personal biases and beliefs would be required, and the passing judges would be qualified for that tournament's judging. The judges that did not pass would be replaced by alternate passing judges supplied by the local school or event. Passing judges can still decline if they feel biased because of these reasons, including but not limited to:
