Rare wants a sequel and were even developing it. The game was set to have movie spoofs they couldn't add in the first one. In an interview with Chris Seaver he said they had a whole storyline set up. It would start with Conker being a bad king spending all his money on hookers and booze so he is thrown in jail. The game would start with you as Conker trying to escape prison with a ball in chain on you. The game was practically ready to be made!!
Microsoft does not green light the project so one of the most overlooked Squirrels of the gaming industry is looked. Conkers Bad Fur Day despite being one of the best installments of the N64 era with amazing graphics that pushed the system to its limit did not sell well at release. The reason being newer systems overshadowed the N64 but through time many have seen the genius that was Conkers Bad Fur Day. Since Diddy Kong Racing and Conker's Pocket tales was the world introduced to Conker but on his way to a 3d gaming system of his own game the rather cute and colorful squirrel was changed by Rare in an attempt to avoid creating a game where all you do is collect like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, a decision that was made for the better.
Though I do wish for a sequel I want the old look to make a return. While Conker Live and Reloaded did have good graphics it changed minor things that were really more major than it seemed. With Conker's frying pan only used in the training area and then turned into a generic bat with a nail in it, the annoying and misplaced enemies that stand in the way only slowing the game down, and the multiplayer being turned into a halo knockoff Conker Live and Reloaded was a bad remake.
Nintendo has been pulling old characters from the grave and Microsoft needs to do the same starting with this foul mouthed red squirrel. Aren't you sick of all the same old crap coming from Microsoft? Gears of War, Halo, Medal Of Honor, all good games and all the same boring formula. It's time to shake things up and if used right Conker could be a mascot for Microsoft. Why is it Gears of War can have 3 sequels within 3 years? Why is it that Halo has had sequels even after the "so called" last installment? Don't you think it's time that Conker gets the respect he is deserved?
