All parents deserve the chance to choose schools that reflect their values and support their child's academic and social development. ICS will be open to all children in the community, and free to parents.
ICS plans to open a socio-economically diverse, academically rigorous elementary school in downtown Brooklyn. It will serve children from Dowwtown, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Fort Greene and Bedford-Stuyvesant. Of the 18 elementary schools in the area, barely three can arguably be said to equip their students for college preparatory middle and high schools. While four elementary charter schools serve 1,300 students in the district, the waitlist is more than 15,000 students long.
