Fairlawn and Frances K Sweet are consistently at the top of the county in test scores, grades and achievements. To make either of these schools "choice schools", would limit the opportunities for students, especially in the surrounding communities.
The proposed strategy was listed as one of four bullet points, under the umbrella of "Student Assignment Changes". Since this proposal was given one lump sum, there is no way for us to know the specific amount that would be saved and exactly where the money would come from.
Down the road, what if this does not prove to be a viable answer? How would this be rectified? There are other avenues to be considered before directly affecting our community in such a monumental way. Understanding these are challenging economic times, but the data has not been provided to show us that there is a $17 million deficit.
Consolidating Fairlawn and Frances K Sweet is NOT the answer.
