Student loan debt is an issue that is currently plauging the nation. Here at the University of Massachuetts, students are also feeling the pressure of mounting student loans. Students and their families are forced to hand over thousands of dollars to pay for their education. Although students of this organization are aware that the college debt crisis at UMass will not be solved overnight, they wish to propose a participatory budget council. This council would require the university to inform students exactly where their thousands of dollars are being spent, and then give students the option to vote on where this money should be spent next. Although this alone will not end student debt at the University of Massachusetts, it will at the very least allow students to be involved with how the university spends their money. It is the first step among many to eventually finding a way to lower the cost of higher education for students at the University of Massachusetts.
