Hurricane Sandy has affected us all, and we are still struggling to various degrees. At the very least, it’s insensitive that Nassau Community College has officially resumed classes since Monday holding us liable for missed information.
It’s causing increased stress about homework, who we're going to leave our kids with, how we are going to get to the nearest place of power to charge electronics/get internet/get warm, and if we should use the little gas we have just to attend classes when we don’t know if our teachers will be present or where classes will be held. We all need NCC to meet our needs.
If State/Federal Aid requirements, is the reason NCC reopened, priorities need adjusting. Many others and I are still without power for 8 days now and some of us haven’t had textbooks whether they be digital or not.
This is our College. This is our community. This is our tuition. Please sign this petition to request that NCC revise their decision and push back classes at least one week, giving all of us the chance to get our lives back together. We should be able to extend the semester. Just because NCC is lucky enough to have electricity doesn’t mean the rest of us are, meanwhile we’re being held liable for the information we’re missing.
This should be a time of rebuilding and helping our neighbors if we are fortunate enough to have the resources. Please share your story and pass this on to others.
If anyone is fortunate enough to be able to help out FEMA or Red Cross, they really need pillows, pillow cases, towels, sock and underwater (all items must be brand new).
I'd like to hear from teachers as well, please share your story.
Thank you.
