For many decades, Algoma University has been a centre of learning with both a long and solid history in the Sault Ste. Marie area. Though the university's past has not been always truly bright, there is some light in reclaiming and maintaining tradition that both honours the students past, but also the students who have earned their knowledge presently at our historical institution. In an effort to bring back that respect and honour to Algoma University, the graduation ceremony on the great historical grounds demonstrates a reclamation of Chief Shingwauk's vision and the joyous celebration that graduation brings. The photograph on the front steps as part of the graduation ceremony has been part of the ongoing effort to make Algoma University a positive and fulfilling university for all students. It honours the students of the past, honours traditions of the present, and honours the great land on which our institution sits.
