Annawadi is a slum in Mumbai that resides on the land of the airport. People here are poor. They take whatever jobs they can get their hands on. The ones who are better educated work in the airports or hotel nearby. These are considered the best jobs. The lowest jobs one could find is a position scavenging for trash just to make enough money for one meal. People get by day to day. They are desperate for a stable home and income to support their family.
These people do not ever get to escape the slum. Once you are born in it, there is no coming out. All of this has to do with the level of education administered to the children there. The future of tomorrow lies in the children of today. The teachers of the schools in Annawadi either are sometimes uneducated and most do not show up for their classes. These are the public schools. Teenagers sometimes teach the private schools. They are at least consistent. However, even these situations do not lead to a successful career outside of the slum.
I am arguing that these facts be brought to justice. The government should not be taking bribes under the table from the slacking teachers to keep their position. They need to earn it. They should want to help their students whole heartedly be ready for whatever lies ahead in their future, the successful one. The government needs to improve their public education or else their children of today will never bring out a good future for tomorrow.
