Save California Schools (and my job as an educator)!

Please pledge to vote YES ON CALIFORNIA PROP 30 this November 6, 2012. If this initiative passes it will provide relief for the budget cuts to K-12 schools in California and California Community Colleges that are already taking place for the 2012-2013 school year and prevent further cuts that are scheduled to take effect. While the initiative if passed will temporarily raise California state sales and income tax, it is the only way to prevent these cuts from further gutting our education system.

This issue is personal to me because I studied for ten years to become a California community college Spanish professor and was able to achieve my goal and begin teaching last fall. Due to the budget cuts, however, classes were cut and there was no class available for me this fall and I and many other educators like me were laid-off. If Prop 30 passes, I will likely be able to teach again this Spring semester in January 2013.

Do NOT be deceived by the anti-prop 30 campaign. The commercials state that this bill will "kill jobs" and that "we do not know where the money will go". This is not true. The bill will immediately provide relief for the educational budget cuts that are already underway THIS 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR. Two different community colleges have told me they will have a class available for me this Spring if prop 30 passes and that if it fails, they will not be able to offer me a class and will likely have to cut more classes and lay-off even more teachers. This bill SAVES JOBS it does NOT kill them. The anti-prop 30 campaign states that teachers are against prop 30. That is a lie! I am a teacher and us teachers SUPPORT PROP 30!

With your YES vote on Prop. 30, we can:

        • Stop another $6 billion in cuts to our schools this year.

        • Prevent steep tuition hikes for college students and their families.

        • Invest in our schools and colleges so we can prepare the next generation for the jobs of the future.

Let’s work together to invest in our children and a strong economy for California’s future. VOTE YES ON PROP 30!!

Thank you,

Wendianne
