For years, the Barnes & Noble in Noble Plaza has been the heart of Jenkintown. As children, we went there to find research books for school, new magazines that only B&N had, and the latest R. L. Stine books. Today's kids use the store for the same purposes. Adults unwind and relax in the comfy chairs, pick up a book and look through it while sipping coffee in the cafe, and let their children roam the kids-only area. Though Noble Plaza has seen restaurants come and go, Barnes & Noble has always been there for us.
That could all change.
Barnes & Noble has decided not to renew its lease in Jenkintown and will close at the end of this year. We must act quickly to save this store!
We are asking the company to reconsider walking away from Noble Plaza. No other store location will serve us as well. Nowhere else has the memories we hold so dear: the smell of books, the amazing magazine selection, the friendly attitudes from the staff, and the cafe where we buy our coffees, scones, and Mad River sodas. We understand that Nooks and iPads have stolen a bit of the book-reading market, but those who are loyal to the Jenkintown store know that there is no replacement for getting together with friends and meeting people. Such places are rare nowadays, and Barnes & Noble has indeed become a more than a big chain bookstore - it's a community gathering place.
