The implementation of Moral and National Education aims at students' national identity awareness and nurturing patriotism towards China. This course is now optional for schools to enact after the Chief Executive Chung Ying Leung called off the '3-year development period' and canceled the content of 'tearing when seeing the national flag'.
Although schools are not forced to implement the course, freedom of thought of Hong Kong children is still threatened by this ‘brainwashing education’. Teachers, scholars, parents, councilors and students are standing up against the Moral and National Education: demonstrations, protests, hunger strike and petitions.
The government ignored the demand of 130,000 Hong Kong people and refused to withdraw the course and curriculum guideline.
