Whereas:
- The University of California Statement of Ethical Values reinforces every student’s right to dignity and a fair education;
- Our collective values as members of the University of California bar discrimination against any one group on the basis of, but not limited to, race and economic situation;
- No student should be denied access to an education if they show merit and/or need;
- The California DREAM Act preserves and protects the opportunities of minority students to earn a higher education;
We the students of the University of California deem it appropriate to voice our opposition to the candidacy of any individual for public office who does not support students’ right to access to higher education.
And whereas the University of California, Riverside is and has consistently been at the forefront of ethnic and economic diversity;
We call on the faculty of the University of California, Riverside in their capacity as educators and in the interest of all students, to join us in opposing any and all candidates who do not support the California DREAM Act. Upon receiving 500 student signatures, this petition will be forwarded on to the chairs and faculty of each academic department, as well as all Associate Vice Chancellors, Vice Chancellors, and Chancellor Timothy P. White.
