The benefits of music education are endless. Social develepment, physical attributes, increased intelligence and emotional stability, etc.
The Vancouver Island Bachelor in Jazz Studies program is being threatened by cuts or potentially cancellation. Admistration claims "high cost per student" when classrooms are overfilled with students paying tuition.
Students come from across Canada (as far North as Yellowknife and as far East as Toronto) to attend Vancouver Island University's music program for the sole purpose of the accolades of the faculty and alumni.
The young bachelor program in jazz studies is a tantalizing offer for students who are interested in pursuing upper level music courses and cannot afford schools in large cities or the U.S.
The onus is on the Administration for not properly promoting/advertising the music programs wonderful faculty and talented, succesful alumni. DON'T PUNISH THE STUDENTS!
