Sandy Adams doesn't want children to read about energy efficiency on the internet, and she means to protect them from harmful exposure to ideas about how to lower one's carbon footprint. To that end, she wrote an amendment to proposed legislation would have prohibited the federal government from spending even a few dollars a month on any website that promotes using compact fluorescent lightbulbs and energy-star appliances.
It's pretty transparent what Adams' agenda is here: Protect fossil fuel profiteers at all costs, even if it means hurting the average American struggling to make ends meet. Adams' campaign finance disclosures show she has accepted money from PACs associated with big oil.
No big surprise that her amendment was voted down. What's troubling is that 181 Republicans voted in its favor. Really? Republicans seriously don't want kids turning learning to turn the lights off and close the refrigerator door to save their family budget? Tell Adams and the Republicans who supported her amendment that energy efficiency is not porn!
