An Apology is in Order

Please sign this petition requesting that Rep.  Tony Payton, Jr. send a letter of apology to Asantewa's school.

On May 31, 2012 Rep. Payton had a subpoena delivered to Salus University where Asantewa was studying to be an eye doctor.  Since the documents being subpoenaed were never requested from Asantewa or her counsel directly, the action violated Pennsylvania Rule 4009.21 of civil procedure.

This action also interfered with Asantewa being able to complete the doctoral program.  It was already challenging for her returning to school after taking a medical/maternity leave, and she pleaded with him not to fight her regarding custody of their infant son until the end of the semester.  He told her she "could do something else" after filing anyway back in January.  She had been dealing with his harassment and lack of respect for her studies for months.

The subpoena was addressed to the wrong dean, who does not deal with such issues and was disturbed by the matter.  Other school officials were put on notice including the President and Vice President.  It was never specified whether the case involved a criminal or civil matter.  In addition, it appeared as if Asantewa was being defiant regarding submitting documents she was never asked for.

Her academic standing was in jeopardy after constantly dealing with Mr. Payton's attacks, which caused her to withdraw from school, having a negatve impact on her livelihood.

Mr. Payton remains unccoperative regarding issuing a letter of apology to the school, for unnecessarily getting them involved in a private matter.
