Coursera.org is providing an excellent online educational platform, top-notch learning materials, and has a vibrant community. However, Resources on Coursera.org are currently restricted by full Copyright.

Releasing Coursera courses under an open license, such as a Creative Commons license, will provide our community with freedoms such as universal access to education, the right to redistribute the resources to friends ane neigbors, the freedom to adapt resources to fit other educational contexts (e.g. other websites, schools, and learning environments), the ability for educators to derive a reasonable living while utilizing these and other open educational resources.

Universities around the world, including MIT, Yale, Harvard, Notre Dame, Stanford, Open University, and many more have been releasing free/open source course materials for several years now, as part of a global movement towards Open Education. Coursera is accepting and promoting materials from many of the same institutions. However, Coursera's Copyright policy does not provide the same freedoms as the Open Education movement has worked so hard to promote.

Please sign this petition urging Coursera.org to release all course materials as Open Educational Resources.
