The council has decided that it wants to change the way that children’s centres are run. It has produced a consultation document with ideas about the changes. We the parents of children at Golborne Children’s Centre (GCC) are concerned that these proposed changes will threaten the continuation of our excellent school and daycare centre.
The proposed changes are:
1) Stop funding the nursery school full time for all children*
2) Stop all funding for the daycare centre
3) Propose that the centre be run by a private company
Golborne Children Centre is a centre of excellence in a very deprived area of London. This is achieved by the dedicated teaching staff with great expertise and in-depth local knowledge who currently run the centre. Without the council's funding, the centre may need to close its daycare provision and be unable to employ full time early-years teachers to prepare the most vulnerable children for primary school. GCC never turns away children with special educational needs. It has a full time special education coordinator that works with staff to tailor the education to the child's needs. GCC also opens is facilities to the local nurseries/schools for their children to use the sensory play areas.
The council has created this centre of excellence in teaching that allows low income families to return to work while their children are cared and educated. Why stop supporting it now?

*only a small number of places will be funded full time.
